This website was created for parents, students and other teachers to openly view my classroom management procedures. I believe that everyone deserves to know the rationale behind the rules and expectations that they are expected to follow and this is my way of making it clear what my classroom expectations are based off of. My classroom management policy is based on the self-discipline pyramid created by Villa, Thousand and Nevin (2010). This pyramid is broken down into five levels and starts by addressing the whole class as a community up to creating individual plans for disruptive students.
Overall my management philosophy can be described as using Progressivism. I believe that every student has the right to learn and be actively involved in their learning. I believe in differentiated and project based learning. Hour long lectures and no collaboration are a thing of the past and going along with the Common Core, they seem to be on their way out. In my classroom I believe that students should be able to work together and to have choice over how they complete assignments. Creating the option of choice for students in their learning allows them to become more engaged and interested in their work. The students I have in my classroom every day are our future. That is why I do everything I can to teach them the real world skills they will need when they enter into society in the coming years.
